Top-seeded Jessica Pegula completed her dayโs work in 71 minutes, crushing Belarusโ Iryna Shymanovich 6-0, 6-3 on Wednesday in the second round of the Credit One Charleston (S.C.) Open.
Pegula was playing her first match since falling in straight sets against Belarusโ Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Miami Open on Sunday. She had a first-round bye in Charleston.
Against Shymanovich, Pegula converted all six of her break points, allowing her to overcome putting just 53 percent of her first serves in play.
The only seeded players to fall on Wednesday were No. 16 Peyton Stearns, who lost 6-1, 6-4 to Australiaโs Ajla Tomljanovic, and No. 17 Belinda Bencic of Switzerland, who was eliminated 6-0, 6-3 by Sofia Kenin.
Also advancing to the third round were No. 3 Qinwen Zheng of China, No. 4 Emma Navarro, No. 5 Daria Kasatkina of Australia, No. 6 Diana Shnaider and No. 9 Ekaterina Alexandrova of Russia, No. 10 Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan, No. 11 Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, No. 13 Elise Mertens of Belgium, No. 14 Anna Kalinskaya of Russia and No. 15 Ashlyn Krueger.
All of the dayโs matches ended in straight sets.

Marie Bouzkova took advantage of nine double faults from Cyprusโ Raluka Serban, and the top-seeded Czech player rolled to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the second round at Bogota, Colombia.
Bouzkova moves on to face Polandโs Katarzyna Kawa, who got past Brazilโs Laura Pigossi 1-6, 7-6 (5), 6-3. Pigossi failed to take advantage of a match point at 5-4 in the second set.
In other second-round action, Leolia Jeanjean defeated Selena Janicijevic 6-4, 6-3 in an all-French matchup, and the United Statesโ Julieta Pareja topped Romaniaโs Patricia Maria Tig 6-3, 7-6 (3).
